In Memoriam - Henry Owens
Henry Owens was a pivotal figure in shaping the success of Atlantic 252. Starting his radio journey in the early 80s with South Coast Radio and later working with Radio Nova and Q102, Henry brought a wealth of experience and passion to the long-wave station.
At Atlantic 252, Henry moved swiftly from presenting to management, becoming the station’s Programme Controller. Under his leadership, the station thrived, offering a vibrant, music-driven sound that defined a generation of radio. His time at Atlantic 252 was crucial not just for the station but also for Henry, as it cemented his place as a visionary in the world of radio broadcasting.
After his success at Atlantic 252, Henry continued his impressive career, moving to the UK to work with Galaxy 102 in Manchester and Virgin Radio, where he held the role of Programme Director. His journey came full circle when he returned to Ireland to launch Cork’s Red FM, where he served as Chief Executive and Programme Director, shaping another successful station.
Henry was more than just a manager and presenter; he was also a respected voice-over artist, known for his distinctive and memorable voice, which many in the industry continue to emulate. Through his company, OWENSMEDIA, Henry provided professional radio solutions, leaving his mark on yet another facet of the broadcasting world.

Henry Owens passed away at Mary Mount Hospice in Cork, surrounded by his wife and daughter.
